Saturday March 24

Honduras Team 1207, comprised of 40 members from churches in Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, and North Carolina, arrived safely with all of our luggage! in Tegucigalpa on a partly cloudy day in the mid 70’s. We were excited to see all of the planning come together in 30 trunks of medicines and other supplies coming off the baggage belt. Ten members on the Construction Brigade drove to Rancho Ebenezer, a 45 minute drive from the airport. The rest of the team, the Medical Brigade, went to the WGO Mission House which is on a hill overlooking the city.

Many in our group are experienced in this ministry with 5+ brigades under their belts. Six are ‘first timers’ eager to share the love of Jesus and grow in their relationship with Him. The team is comprised of doctors, dentists, nurses, pastors, pharmacists, teachers, and various non-medical backgrounds between the ages of 30 to 75. (We wish we had some teenagers to carry those heavy trunks. We are recruiting 16 and over for next year’s trip!)

We spent our first day adjusting and learning about the mission….including rules like don’t drink the tap water, no toilet paper in the toilet, and use lots of hand sanitizer! We also learned interesting facts about Honduras, a country about the size of Tennessee with a population of 7 million. We jumped right into the culture by practicing our Spanish greetings, phrases, and songs. “Este es el Dia” (This is the Day) is one we will be singing every day on the medical brigade.

We thank God for safe travel and the opportunity to do His work. We go to sleep tonight both tired and excited for the experiences to come this week.
